The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is a parastatal of the federal Ministry of Communications. The commission was established by the Decree No. 75 of 1992 that deregulated the telecommunications industry in Nigeria and charged it with regulating private telecommunications services, promoting fair competition as well as facilitating entry into the telecommunications market.

NCC is also to protect the public from unfair conduct of telecommunications services providers, ensure technical standards, and develop Nigeria's telecommunication capabilities, industry and skills. The NCC is responsible for licencing and registering private telecommunications concerns in Nigeria. NCC undertakings include ensuring private sector provision and operation of Value added Network Services such as the Internet and Paging services.

Nigerian Internet Group The Nigeria Internet Group (NIG) is a non- governmental organization promoting and facilitating full Internet connectivity in Nigeria. The Nig was formed in March, 1995. The objectives of the NIG include: * Championing the establishment of a national gateway to register the ng domain of the Internet. * Promoting access to the Internet in Nigeria * Promoting national awareness of the Internet * Promoting an intra-Nigeria Network * Promoting the development of national archeves and databases Membership of the NIG attracts the following: * Getting quarterly report from the Secretariat about the groups' activities * Participation in the activities of the Group * Eligibility for elective offices in the Group. NIG has the offices of the President, general meeting * Opportunity for discount in any workshop organized by the Group * Since the ultimate goal of NIG is full access to the Internet, it is planned that NIG members enjoy some discounts from Service providers in one way or another. * The NIG is trying to garner support for the establishment of a library where Information Technology materials and Internet facilities will be made available at almost no cost to members. The library will be exclusively for members. The activities of NIG have been coordinated since its inception by the Nigeria Internet Group (NIG) steering Committee headed by Chief O. C. The Internet Society

The Intener society describes itself as an organization that "providess assistance and support to groups and organization involved in the use, operations and evolution of the Internet. It provides support for forums in which technical and operational questions can be discussed, and provides, mechanisms through which interested parties can be informed and educated about the Internet, its function, use, operation, and the interests of its constituents."

The Internet Society was created by many of the individuals and organzations responsible for the creation and evolution of the Internet. Although it has no official say or control over the Internet, the Internet soviety tries to bring together the individuals and organizations that use the Internet, educate them about the Internet, and encourage them to be involved in the evolution of the Internet.

The Internet Society has over seven thousand individual members and more than 100 corporate members, from more than one hundred and fifty countries, all over the world.

Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria

1. INTRODUCTION
The computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) wasw established by Decree No. 49 of 199s, promulgated on June 10, and gazetted on August 9, of that year.

2. FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES OF COUNCIL
The Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) is "a corporate body with perpetual succession and common seal", a legal entity charged with the control and supervision of the Computing Profession in the country. In regard thereof, its duties include:
2.1 to determine what standards of knowledge and skills are to be attained by persons seeking to become members of the computing profession and improve those standards from time to time as circumstances may permit.
2.2 to secure, in accordance with the provision of the Decree, the establishment and maintenance pf a register of persons seeking to be registered under the Decree to practise the computing profession, and the publication from time to time, of the list of these persons.
2.3 to perform any other functions as bestowed on it by the provisions of the decree. Consequent upon the foregoing, the council has responsibilities for the following, among other
* Organization of computing practice in the country.
* Control of the practice of computing in the country.
* Supervision of the practice of in country.
* Screening individuals seeking to be registered as computer professionals.
* Screening corporate bodies seeking to be registered to engage in the sale or use of computing facilities and/or the provision of professional services in computing in the country.
* Ensuring high computing professional ethics and professionalism - standards discipline etc.
* Reduced charges for some specific professional services and facilities.
* Determining academic standards in computing computer science computer engineering information science etc.
* Accreditation of institutions, courses and programmes and evaluation of certificate in computing
* Conducting professionals examinations in computing liaising with associations/bodies external to the Council.

Publicizing activities of the council.
* Publication of the register of computer Professionals and other computing Professional works - journals, books, magazines, newsletters, etc.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF COMPUTER ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA
The aims of the Association shall be the advancement of Computer Science and Technology, Computer Applications and Professionals Practice. The Objectives of the Association shall be as follows:
